When the seasons begin to change it is the PERFECT time to clean and declutter your house by going through closets, drawers, boxes in your basement, or the crap that’s been sitting untouched on your garage shelves for the last few years.

Because if you’re anything like me, then you probably don’t realize how much stuff you’ve accumulated until you move or you set aside a random time to go through all of your things.

Now, I’m religiously throwing out stuff about every three months to help me stay on top of the mess because I hate clutter. I start feeling claustrophobic when things are chaotic and all over the place which makes it hard for me to function.

And since I know firsthand that a clutter-free home can create a peaceful home, that is what I want for you too!

What to throw out when decluttering?

Today, I’m sharing with you a list of the most common useless things you can throw out ASAP when decluttering your home!

  1. Let’s start in the kitchen… extra shopping bags and no lid tupperware have to go. They can take up so much wasted space!

  2. Moving on down to the linen closet… old blankets that haven’t been used in years can be donated to free up space and help you stay organized.

  3. I don’t know about you but the bathroom seems to accumulate the most stuff… so grab a trashbag and get rid of all the expired makeup, hair and skin products! Oh and don’t forget those dried up nail polishes that are useless.

  4. If you have a playroom or a space for your kiddos, now’s the time to go through all of the outgrown toys that they either haven’t had any interest playing with.. Other items I always find and toss are broken crayons and pencils. If you’re babes are like mine, then you may want to wait until they aren’t paying attention to what you’re doing. EVERY SINGLE TIME I clean out the toys, Dino walks in and all of sudden has interest in the items that he sees me tossing into the donation bag. HA.

  5. This is my favorite time to shred any sensitive paper documents that we’ve had piling up on our desk. I keep my space pretty tidy but there is a shred bin that we always toss stuff into and it’s hidden so we forget about it. And now is about the time when the box is at capacity and starts overflowing out from the desk cabinet… does any one else have this issue? I can’t be the only one. It always feels so good to grab a glass of prosecco and have a little shred party. This is where you can enlist your littles to help.

How to get rid of all these things?

You need to take this one room one trash bag at a time! Don’t overwhelm yourself. Remember: your junk didn’t accumulate in a day and it may not disappear in one either.

Donate and recycle what you can to try to minimize waste and toss what you need to.

Want a challenge?

Going forward, every month you can donate unwanted goods. Empty old food from your fridge and pantry every week, and keep trash from piling up in your house every day. And every time you buy a new item, get rid of an old item. This will help you to deal with clutter on a regular basis so you don’t have to feel overwhelmed.

Happy Spring Cleaning!
